Management

Optelian management interfaces provide access both locally at the shelf and remotely for configuration and alarm and event monitoring. Alarm relays are provided to connect to the office's alarm system.

For remote operator access, a management card connects through the shelf's backplane to all the cards in a shelf. The management card connects through an Ethernet LAN to a remote operations center.

For remote node communication, the optical supervisory channel (OSC) allows use of any available wavelength, including the standard 1510 nm wavelength, to transfer management data through the optical network. An optical add/drop multiplexer module (OADM) is used to add and drop the OSC wavelengths.

Optelian network management (ONM) software has an easy-to-use graphical user interface.
