Monitoring & Protection

LightGAIN monitoring and protection switching capabilities improve network availability, and reduce time and operation costs for turn-up, troubleshooting and restoration.

Optical Channel Monitoring

LightGAIN optical channel monitors (OCMs) continuously monitor optical power levels across wavelengths in a DWDM system, eliminating the need to take an optical spectrum analyzer on site. Readings are reported remotely through the LightGAIN ONM-200 network manager.

Optical Link Monitoring

The LightGAIN Optical Link Monitor (OLM) is used to isolate faults, typically in wholesale mobile backhaul or edgeless service applications, where the access device is owned by the end customer. By monitoring the link, network operators can ensure connectivity and service level agreement adherence.

Protection Switching

Optelian's Path Protection Module (PPM) provides automatic switching within 15 ms between primary and secondary optical paths based on user-specified power thresholds and electrical signal quality (e.g. loss of frame) using Optelian's proprietary protection switching technology.
