Muxponders

Muxponders are a great way to support many lower data rate services with a single fiber or fiber pair. Optelian muxponders provide various functions, the two key applications being aggregation and ethernet switching.

Aggregation

Increase bandwidth by aggregating multiple lower bit rate transmission client signals into one higher bit rate line signal.

Muxponders can connect directly to optical fiber or they can connect to a CWDM or DWDM multiplexer for even greater fiber utilization.

Muxponders use pluggable transceivers (SFPs on the client side and XFPs on the line side) so they can be used in a wide variety of applications. Clients can be electrical or optical (1310 or 1550 nm), co-located or some distance away. Line side interfaces can be fiber, CWDM or DWDM with a variety of reaches supported.

Ethernet Switching

In addition to aggregating eight GbE inputs into one 10 GbE output, the multi-purpose MPX-81-EXO may also be used as an Ethernet switch with provider bridge VLAN capability.
