Regenerators & Transponders

Optelian's RGN-series products are dual purpose serving both regenerator and transponder applications. They offer transparent regeneration with ultra low latency. Several models are available to fit specific network requirements.

Two data rate options:RGN_Family_Drawing_Small

  • RGN-3 Family: Up to 2.7 Gb/s
  • RGN-10 Family: 9.95 to 11.32 Gb/s

Two interfaces

  • Tunable – save on spares in DWDM applications
  • Pluggable – flexibility for more applications

OTN

  • Extended reach with forward error correction (FEC and SuperFEC)
  • Enhanced performance monitoring

Regenerators Extend Reach

Regenerators can be used in a number of ways to extend reach. This saves money whenever placement of SONET/SDH or Ethernet transmission equipment can be avoided.

The optics on some transmission equipment, Ethernet in particular, can be very short reach (500 m to 2 km). Extending this reach up to 100 km can be done simply by adding a regenerator with long reach optics.

Any system can be extended for an unlimited distance by adding regenerators mid-span, as the 3R (reshape, regenerate and retime) function of the regenerator effectively cleans up the signal from chromatic and polarization mode dispersion. Regenerators can be used with amplifiers; amplifiers giving hundreds of kilometers of reach and regenerators placed when necessary to clean up the signal.

TranspondersRegen_Diagram2

Transponders generally are the “on-ramp” to WDM, CWDM or DWDM applications.

Transponders perform conversions:

  • Media (electrical to optical)
  • Mode (multimode to singlemode)
  • Wavelength (1310 / 1550 nm to CWDM or DWDM specific wavelengths)

RGN-10XO

RGN-10XO

RGN-10XO converts a 10 Gb/s signal (e.g. OC-192 OR 10 GbE) into an OTU-2 signal for enhanced reach and fault localization. The RGN-10XO enhances network reliability and fault localization for 10 Gb/s optical transmission using SONET/SDH and OTN overhead monitoring. It provides strong forward error correction (UFEC) for extended reach.

RGN-10GXF

RGN-10GXF

The RGN-10GXF uses XFP transceivers for both transponder and regenerator 10 Gb/s applications.

RGN-10GXT

RGN-10GXT

The RGN-10GXT uses a line-side tunable and a client-side XFP transceiver for both transponder and regenerator 10 Gb/s applications..

RGN-3GSF

RGN-3GSF

RGN-3GSF uses up to four SFP transceivers for dense mounted transponder and regenerator applications ranging from 10 Mb/s to 2.7 Gb/s.

RGN-3GST

RGN-3GST

RGN-3GST uses a line-side DWDM tunable transceiver and client-side SFP transceivers for inventory savings on transponder and regenerator applications ranging from 10 Mb/s to 2.7 Gb/s.

RGN-348

RGN-348

RGN-348 combines two functions. It converts an incoming single mode wavelength to 1550 nm and then it uses a WDM to combine the 1550 nm signal with a 1310 nm...

RGN-248

RGN-248

RGN-248 converts an incoming single mode wavelength into a 1550 nm signal for WDM and reach extension applications.

RGN-200

RGN-200

RGN-200 converts an incoming single mode wavelength into a particular DWDM wavelength for transponder and regenerator applications ranging from 10 Mb/s to 2.7 Gb/s. It is used with DWDM multiplexers.
