Optelian Packs Four Times More Capacity onto Fiber
New Muxponder Aggregates 4 OC-48/STM-16/OTU-1 Systems onto 1 Fiber or C/DWDM Wavelength
Optelian’s new 4 x 2.5 Gb/s Muxponder is a break-through for high-growth networks. Up to four OC-48/STM-16 or OTU-1 systems can now be aggregated into one 10.7 Gb/s OTU-2 signal to go onto a single fiber or onto a single wavelength of a C/DWDM system.
This economical and quick-to-deploy solution is a boon for both established network operators experiencing fiber exhaust due to growth in their networks and for new operators with limited fiber who are trying to expand their businesses.
In addition to aggregation, the muxponder converts the signal to OTU-2, adding the benefits of G.709 OTN. These include spanning longer distances with an additional 6/8.2 dB gain from GFEC/UFEC forward error correction, as well as enhanced performance monitoring paired with protection path switching.
“When used as part of Optelian’s LightGAIN optical transport system, the MPX-3GOTN is astonishingly easy to engineer, install, and turn-up,” said Ellen Warren, Optelian Product Manager. “Whether the network operator has existing OC-48/STM-16 or OTU-1 systems they want to consolidate or whether they want to add these systems but have limited fiber available, this new muxponder dramatically reduces deployment time and cost and brings in revenue faster.”
