Optical Amplification

Erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) amplify all wavelengths in a DWDM system. EDFAs have an output power of +17dBm and can extend a DWDM system 100-120km. They can be used as a power amplifier at the transmit end of a DWDM system, as a line amplifier mid-span, or at the receive end of a DWDM system.
