Optelian MPX-9103 Muxponder Achieves NEBS and Outside Plant (OSP) Certification

Ideal solution for 100Gb/s aggregation targeting 5G networks and fiber deep any-haul applications 

February 12, 2019—Ottawa, ON/Roswell, GA — Optical networking solution provider Optelian today announced its MPX-9103 100Gb/s hardened service aggregation muxponder has achieved full NEBS Level 3 and GR-3108 certification. Applications for the MPX-9103 include 4G and 5G wireless upgrades for cell sites for fronthaul and backhaul coupled with next generation fiber deep architectures. It extends Metro rings and pushes more bandwidth closer to the edge and is an ideal solution for high-bandwidth remote business service access and fiber deep cabinets. In addition, the MPX-9103 gives service providers more flexibility with remote 100Gb/s capacity expansion without the expense of fiber infrastructure. The MPX-9103 dovetails with Optelian’s existing suite of hardened products for a whole system OSP solution.

“With increasing network bandwidth demands, it’s critical to bring 100Gb/s optical aggregation to the edge of the network. In many cases this means installing optical multiplexers in outside enclosures to get more dedicated bandwidth to the user,” said Scott Agnew, vice president of R&D at Optelian. “Optelian purpose-built the MPX-9103 for outside cabinet deployments. The NEBS and GR-3108 certification provides assurance the MPX-9103 is suited to harsh environments while using commercial grade CFP-DCOs.”

Optelian’s MPX-9103 is OTN-based with multi-protocol client interfaces. As a service aggregation muxponder, the MPX-9103 aggregates up to ten 10Gb/s client-side circuits onto a 100Gb/s line interface. The unit is housed in a 1RU small footprint chassis that is energy efficient for outside plant cabinets. Enhanced ruggedization and extensive thermal management capability means installations can use commercial temperature optical modules, including CFP-DCO (tuneable) line-side optical modules even under extreme conditions.

NEBS Level 3 certification is a compliance standard that addresses safety, durability and operability for carrier class equipment. The standards are very stringent to ensure NEBS-compliant systems will operate properly for communications service providers. GR-3108 is a hardened requirement for protected, uncontrolled environments (protected from rain and sun but not temperature controlled) over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +65°C. It also certifies resistance against corrosive gas or salt-fog exposure in coastal regions.

The MPX-9103 is currently available to all customers.

In addition, the MPX-9103 will allow service providers to now have flexibility with remote 100G capacity expansion without the expense of a fiber infrastructure upgrade where fiber relief may be necessary. Optelian Introduces TMX-2200 100/200G Transponder/Muxponder

Robust design is ideal DWDM transport solution for 100 GbE or OTU4 services

February 13, 2018—Ottawa, ON/Roswell, GA — Optical networking solution provider Optelian  introduces the TMX-2200 transponder and muxponder, allowing 100 GbE and OTU4 services to be transported over DWDM at a fraction of the cost.

Optelian’s TMX-2200 is an ideal DWDM transport solution for 100 GbE or OTU4 services. It interfaces to standard 100G SR4 or LR4 client optics, and incorporates a CFP2-DCO pluggable line interface with a software programmable DWDM modulation format that can operate in 100G DP-QPSK or 200G DP-16QAM mode.

Up to two 100G client services can be transported over a single DWDM wavelength with optional physical layer encryption. It provides full client- and line-side performance monitoring for clear service demarcation, fault localization, and SLA assurance.

The TMX-2200 provides significant fiber relief opportunities in point-to-point applications, and is ideally suited for data center interconnect (DCI) and wholesale transport of 100G services.

Optelian Strengthens Outside Plant Portfolio with New Extended Temperature Products

Enables cost-effective deployment of new services in remote locations

, each supporting extended temperature operation. The addition of these products significantly broadens Optelian’s existing OSP solution.

Optelian solutions deliver services across regional, metro and local networks. This new addition to the portfolio allows operators to further expand their WDM footprint across their entire serving area. Service providers are now able to extend their reach, deploy fiber to the premises (FTTx), interconnect communities, deploy mobile backhaul solutions, and support centralized RAN (C-RAN) and small cell CPRI-based interconnect in the metro. These revenue-generating deployments are made possible with Optelian’s OSP-rated products, the low acquisition cost, and low operational cost. Optelian’s OFA-1700 and OFA-2000 series of amplifiers are now certified for extended temperature range operation. Optelian Expands Transponder Portfolio with High-Density 10G OTN Solution

(OTN) card.

With eight 10G interfaces supporting a variety of independent application services, each with OTN encapsulation, forward error correction, and full service awareness, this card is the ideal solution for enabling service providers to push service provisioning to the network edge. The RGN-8040 is designed with extended temperature range for outside plant operation, and NEBS-qualification for carrier-grade service delivery.

GE and Optelian Join Forces to Deliver Reliable Optical Networking Solutions for Utilities

Allows Utilities to Maximize Fiber Communication Networks without Additional Capital Investments; Segregates and Protects Critical Operational Traffic from Information Technology Applications While Maintaining Service Quality

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Utilities increasingly face pressure to provide reliable communications for critical services.

There is a need to maintain low latency end-to-end propagation delays, a need to restore service in the event of a disruption within 10 milliseconds, as well as a continued need to operate within the harsh electrical and environmental conditions of a power substation.

Through pairing Optelian solutions with GE’s JungleMUX and TN1U/Ue multiplexers, utilities facing capacity constraints on existing fiber segments or requiring communications over extended fiber cable lengths now have a cost-effective solution. This approach facilitates field-upgradable “scale” to quickly augment capacity, extend reach and provide essential optical retiming, reshaping and amplification for additional cost savings. It also enables service separation specific to each utility’s changing needs.

When combined with GE’s SONET/SDH multiplexers and utility-hardened multilink switches, network engineers can maintain transparent service pipes from 64 kilobits per second to 10 gigabytes per second and beyond from their network edges, without the service-delivery compromises (such as additional latency, inefficient bandwidth usage and network complexity) typically found when protocol conversion is employed. Managed via standards-based simple network management protocol, the combination of the Optelian FLEX Architecture and GE multiplexers improves utility communications with superior traffic segmentation and guaranteed quality of service.

Optelian 100G Selected by Pan Dacom for German R&E Network

Ottawa, Canada and Dreieich, Germany — Intuitive Packet Optical Networking™ solutions provider, Optelian, announced that Pan Dacom, one of the leading technology providers in Germany, is deploying the MPX-9110 Flexible 100G Platform in the first phase of connecting research and education campuses throughout Germany. The network will leverage existing fiber infrastructure that was previously transporting 10G traffic to now deliver 100G services.

Optelian’s Versawave Division announces gallium arsenide wafer supply agreement with Compound Semiconductor Technologies

Ottawa, Canada and Hamilton, Scotland — Optelian, the provider of Intuitive Packet Optical Networking solutions, announced that Compound Semiconductor Technologies (CST) will supply grown gallium arsenide (GaAs) wafers to its Versawave Division as a key component of Versawave’s ultra high-speed optical modulator technology.

Under this foundry agreement, CST will supply to Versawave fully processed GaAs wafers with an optical coating, as designed and specified by Versawave.

“We are delighted to be working with a world-class partner like Compound Semiconductor Technologies,” stated David Weymouth, Optelian’s CEO. “Their Class 50 clean room environment, combined with full ISO compliance, enables Optelian to maintain our exceptionally high manufacturing standards.”

In conjunction with this agreement, Optelian has also ramped up Versawave facilities at its corporate and manufacturing headquarters in Ottawa. The wafers supplied by CST will be integrated into Versawave opto-electrical modules by Optelian’s manufacturing team.

Versawave module production will be transferred into a newly built custom clean room space where process and operations will be fully integrated into Optelian’sproduction and quality control systems. Manufacturing is capable of 24/7 production, resulting in shorter lead times while ensuring on-time customer delivery and quality.

“Moving R&D and Operations under the same roof will not only make us more efficient, but also more agile”, said Simon Benwell, Director of Advanced Optical Components, at Optelian’s Versawave Division. “By having R&D work in conjunction with the production teams, our NPI times will reduce significantly while our production capacity will drastically increase. These are both essential for our new products coming onto the market in 2014 and beyond.”
